Campaign to Prevent Skin Cancer Launches at Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics in Denver

Dr. Jeffrey Raval and his medical aestheticians focus on educating clients to prevent skin cancer and melanomas using SPF 30 or higher combined with annual physical skin checkups.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 26, 2010 — Skin is the largest organ in the human body—on average, adults have 2 square meters—making it ever more important to check regularly for melanomas, according to Jeffrey Raval, MD, FACS, double board-certified plastic surgeon and medical director of rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics in Cherry Creek North, Denver, CO.

Coloradans are particularly vulnerable to skin cancer as Ultra Violet intensity increases 4% for every 1000 feet above sea level,” says Dr. Raval. “It’s not just a concern in summer months, but year-round.”
Incidences of melanoma in 1996-2000 in Colorado were 33% higher than the U.S. average for men and 40% higher for women, according to the Colorado Cancer Center Registry. The Colorado Cancer Plan for 2005 – 2010 calls for reducing the incidences of skin cancer through increased awareness:

  • Wear sunscreen,
  • Avoid suntan beds and legislating against users under 18 years old,
  • Promote self exams and physician exams to check for skin cancer.

At Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics at 250 Steele St. in Denver, Dr. Raval and his medical assistants stress wearing SPF 30 at a minimum. Dr. Raval carries RavalRx, a proprietary line of skincare products he has developed to meet the needs of his patients, plus Obaji, Nia 24, Vivite, La Roche-Posay and SkinCeuticals. Sun protection lotions and crèmes are part of each product line available in the clinic and online at www.ravalmd.com, the facial plastic surgery arm of Dr. Raval’s practice sharing the same office.

Rocky Mountain Laser Aesthetics also carried the Elta MD sunblock. “This is a new addition to our product line. It’s a very smooth cream that many patients prefer,” says Dr. Raval.

Dr. Raval and his aestheticians use Visia® Complexion Analysis to map a patient’s face and the resulting sun damage, perhaps the biggest contributor to aging skin, wrinkles and brown spots as well as melanomas. This topographic map is then interpreted by Dr. Raval and his medical techs to determine…(Full Story)
